APC outreach prog. reaches Bomdila
BOMDILA, Nov 26: The first leg of the district outreach programme on the theme ‘Press & Society: Common Goals, Shared Responsibilities’ by Arunachal Press Club (APC) was organized at Kameng Hall with maximum participation from the common public as well as the government officials.
APC President Taba Ajum while presenting a PowerPoint presentation on the different aspects of press and media and its limitations tried to his best to do away with the confusion that is often accompanies media.
He said, “Media in Arunachal is often mistaken for a court by the common which is the very reason why it is attacked and hence freedom of press is curtailed. People have to understand that media is just a medium between the government and the common public.”
“More and more people have to come forward for the support of media because without people’s support it cannot survive,” he added.
Participating during the interactive session, Dorjee Tsering, a senior citizen lauded the press fraternity for holding such programme in Bomdila despite chilly weather and said, “Do not be afraid of the criticism that you receive regarding your work.”
Pointing out that press has played a major role in the development of the state, he called on the people present and said, “Press is being attacked in Arunachal because of their own ignorance. If people understood, there would have been no need for it”.

Prime accused in Rural Bank robbery case arrested
ITANAGAR, Nov 26: In a major breakthrough the Itanagar City Police has apprehended the prime accused involved in the daylight robbery of Arunachal Pradesh Rural Bank, Itanagar Branch, Ganga, namely, Lokam Tagio (25) of village Morb, Koloriang from the river bank behind WRD complex Chimpu on Nov 24 night. The arrested accused was produced before CJM, Naharlagun and remanded to 14 days police custody.
A case No. 261/12 U/S 448/392/34 IPC R/W Sec 25(l)(a)/27 Arms Act. has been registered in Itanagar Police Station in connection with Nov 8 rural bank robbery incident and a search operation launched immediately by two police teams under the SI D Bagra and SI Afa Phassang at Jully and Chimpu area. However, the miscreants managed to escape, informed Capital SP Surender Kumar in a release today.
A numbers of suspects were rounded up and the miscreants were identified after 5 days of incident. The SP further informed that after committing the robbery, the miscreants had been hiding themselves in Koloriang to evade police arrest. The police team followed them upto Koloriang, however they escaped back to Itanagar. In the night of Nov 24 the prime accused Tagio was apprehended from the river bank behind WRD complex Chimpu by a police team led by SDPO T. Gusar, Dy. SP Keni Bagra, Dy. SP Jummar Basar, SI D Bagra, SI Afa Phassang with Ct. H.Milli, Ct J.Sisam and Ct. P.Tabronyu. The police also recovered one pistol with three rounds of live ammunition.
During interrogation arrested accused Lokam Tagio admitted to have committed the offence along with accomplices and disclosed that they had been planning to execute the robbery since a week, the release said.
“On the date of incident the robbers gathered in the house of prime accused Lokam Tagio located at Chimpu and consumed alcohol, from there the group proceeded to Ganga by tempo and got down in front of Rural Bank, Ganga. The miscreants entered the bank armed with a pistol and knives. Inside the bank the prime accused Lokam Tagio fired one round over the cash counter pointing to the bank Staff under influence of alcohol and putting them under life threatening they collected Rs.6 lacs from cash counter and fled away behind RKM Hospital on foot. The Police team have intensified their efforts to find out the source of the pistol and raids are being carried out to nab the associates,” the Capital SP informed. While appreciating the good work done by the police team, the SP City assured to suitably reward team.
While commending the new SP for his efforts to minimize criminal activities in state capital which is evident from recent success in solving few criminal cases, the people of the capital complex and media fraternity hoped that city police under the able guidance of the city SP would also solve all media house and media persons attack cases.
Minister, DC visit fire accident site, provide immediate relief
AALO, Nov 26: The Minister Transport and Cooperation Jarker Gamlin visited the fire accident site at Siyom Colony and donated few amounts to all the 16 families of fire victims.
Interacting with the victims, the Minister appealed them to come out of the misfortune and start a planned settlement. He insisted on approach roads in all colonies for easy access of fire tenders during such mishaps.
West Siang Deputy Commissioner Marnya Ete, who accompanied the Minister during the visit, sanctioned Rs. 50, 000 as immediate relief from the district administration side. The DC assured to depute a team to assess the properties lost in the fire for onward submission of the assessment report to the Government.
Meanwhile, the members of All Aalo Youth Welfare Association donated blankets and utensil like bucket, cooking pot etc. to the fire victims. The association approached R.K. Mission School and collected blankets and distributed it to all the 16 affected families.

The government needs to speed up the Pasighat to Roing road construction to avert such incident. 2nd day of media exhibition attracts school children

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Four tiny tots of LKG class today had their first education on media and newspapers as they visited the ongoing media exhibition titled “The triumphs and tears” comprising photos of media persons completing its 30 years in the state.
The exhibition was launched in the presence of Setong Sena, Agriculture and Horticulture Minister on Sunday and will continue till December 2.
“Wow the photos are so pretty,” said one of excited kids while reacting to the pictures hanged on the walls.
Some visitors were nostalgic to see the first edition of Echo of Arunachal in the exhibition hall.
The visitors comprised mostly of school going children from various schools of Itanagar who asked many questions to the guides of the gallery. The common question among them was if Tongam Rina, Associate editor of Arunachal times was doing fine now?
Few students even suggested the gallery guides to increase the rates of the newspapers as it was imparting so much of knowledge according to them.
The exhibition mainly has 5 sections which depicts the growth of media in Arunachal Pradesh. The first section is the historical section which shows the launching of all the seven media houses and the electronic medias of the state, the second section describes the work of Arunachal Press Club (APC) and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ), the third section depicts the National Press day celebration which was observed on November 16, the fourth portrays the attacks and vandalism that many media houses have faced in the last many years and the last section exhibits the photos of the winners of the photo contest on tourism of Arunachal Pradesh.

Siang Rider piled up 144 runs in stipulated 20 overs after Pare Rangers Skipper Chungma Bagang invited them to bat first.

ITANAGAR, Nov 26: Parliamentary Secretary (PHE&WS) Karikho Kri while appreciating Indira Gandhi Govt. College, Tezu community in reinforcing the academic ambience of the institution appealed them to sustain this for ensuring quality and excellence.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the 23rd College Day of the College on November 24, Kri brought to the fore that the meritorious awards given away by him sought to inject competitive sprit among the students and urged the students to retain the tempo of their discipline and commitment towards studies in bringing laurels to the institution.
While showing concern on the negative effects of drug abuse, Kri called upon the youth to refrain from such social malaise in order to preserve rich cultural heritage and social bondage. Further, he reiterated to provide full support towards all round development of this institution, including commencing of Science classes from the coming academic session.
Earlier, Principal Dr. B K Nath mentioned that the college is emerging as the growing hub for higher education in the Eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh. While commending the efforts of the college fraternity, he highlighted the infrastructural requirements of the college to keep pace with the increasing number of students being enrolled every year.
Students Union Advisor, Rajen Miwu and General Secretary of the Students Union of the College also spoke on the occasion.
Upper Siang all set to celebrate SRF & KEPANGLA Festivals
YINGKIONG, Nov 26: The preparations for Siang River and Keypangla Festivals in Upper Siang district are going on in full swing.
The festivals to be celebrated on December 8 and 9 at Yingkiong and Tuting would be attended by all the three MPs from the State and Chief Minister and hosts of ministers, MLAs and Parliamentary Secretaries and high ranking officers of the state.
During the opening ceremony, 250 young girls will present a mega dance with traditional attire. Several cultural troupes from different areas, villages of the district will take part in the folk dance competition. Besides popular Adi singe Onumoti Sisam, few young artists have been invited to the festival musical nite.
The other programs include, Tug of war, Arrow shooting, Volleyball, Traditional food and exhibition stalls.
There will also be fashion show based on traditional dresses.
During his stay, the CM will inaugurate the UD Guest House, the long waited RCC bridge over Simar stream and Tourist Lodge. The Chief Minister and his team will proceed to Tuting by chopper on December 9 to inaugurate the Keypangla festival at Tuting. The SRF and Keypangla festivals have been sponsored by the Tourism Department and Art and Culture Affairs Department respectively to promote tourism as well as showcase the rich traditional culture of the people of Upper Siang district. Training on tea and rubber cultivation

Sunpura block were imparted training on tea and rubber cultivation organized by BTT,

Attending the inaugural session, Lohit Deputy Commissioner RK Sharma encouraged the farmers to take up tea and rubber cultivation as cash crop with proper planning. He appealed all the trainees to take maximum benefit from the training.
Dr. M. Deka, Associate Professor, Tea Husbandry and Technology and Dr. G K Saikia, Course Coordinator, Small Tea Growers from Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat imparted training to the farmers as resource persons.
